Riudecanyes is a small town situated inland from the
Costa Daurada.
The municipal area of Riudecanyes gains height from its situation on the
slopes of Argentera mountain range, affording an excellent lookout point
over much of the surrounding Baix Camp county.
The sea, only 10 kilometres away, is visible on the horizon. The streets,
castle and reservoir of Riudecanyes are the three features that confer character
and singularity on the town. The original streets were called after the
days of the week, a system that sufficed until recent urban enlargement
obliged the town authorities to seek a wider nomenclature. The monastery-castle
of Sant Miquel d’Escornalbou, documented from the 12th century and
perched on one of the highest spots in the municipal area, is well worth
a visit. The Riudecanyes reservoir, nestling into the surrounding pine grove
landscape between the town and the mountains, offers an invitation to enjoy
a walk or a bit of fishing.
Visitors are welcome to Riudecanyes, a place between the sea and the mountains,
where you can experience the “spirit” of a small inland town.

 The
Castle-Monastery of Saint Michael of Escornalbou dates from the end of
the 12th and the beginning of the 13th century. It was built on the orders
of Alfonso I who ceded it to the Church of Tarragona.
